We interviewed our friend Slim for Free Gold today. Just like Tim he talked a lot about not getting caught up in Internet hype and just being true to you. These days, in this culture, we couldn’t agree more.
Free Gold loves sitting down with like minded friends. Full interviews coming verrrryyy soon!

Huffington Post: If there was one piece of advice you would give youth contemplating art… what would it be?

Danny Simmons: What the hell… go for it.

via Huffington Post. Danny Simmons (along with his younger brother, Russell Simmons) are intimately involved with their charity The Rush Foundation, giving youth opportunities to be involved in the arts.

It’s a great thing, the internet and the exchange of information is great but I think it’s helping people settle and be mediocre. They can be these great voices and people online, you see it everyday on Facebook. You have this avatar, this facade of your online identity and you can be as cool or whatever as you want to be but it’s really taking away from people wanting to be things and do great things in real life. You’re caught up on the internet and shit. How many cool guy points can you get? How many likes can you get? You should be making things! To show people in real life! With their eyes, seeing things, touching with their hands. Those are things that will be around long after the internet, well I don’t know if there will be a long after the internet, but you know what I’m saying, a real thing!

Tim Strazza, assistant director at Joshua Liner and keeper of thewhoa. We sat down and chatted Tim up last week about art, the internet and real life last week.

Full interview coming soon!

Free Gold got a sneak peek of Lucie Fontaine: Estate at Marianne Boesky’s 64th street space last week before the opening.

Fontaine and her employees have been occupying the space since August 15. After the public opening on September 15 Fontaine returned to her hometown while her employees stayed behind to continue to maintain the space and exhibition along with the gallery staff. This literal live/work environment is worth a visit.

Estate is on view through October 15.

Summer Nostalgia If you missed our last exhibition/ party, here’s a collage of memories: Sam Owens & Matt Maust at an undisclosed Chelsea gallery, August 25th. We partied while galleries languished in August’s annual art recess.

Maybe it’s not so strange that the art world likes Bottino. There’s something in its success of Flaubert’s advice to be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your work. Consensus is also a major part of what the art world does—this person’s good, this person isn’t. Once an artist is embraced by the right galleries, it’s rare for his value to decrease.

One last highlight from our Thursday night in Chelsea: Diana Al-Hadid’s The Vanishing Point opening at Marianne Boesky Gallery.
The crowd was a little bit (really) nuts but the art made it worth the visit.
